Fall 2025 Update!
I have been missing from my Substack for a long time. I am a full-time college professor and working toward my Doctor of Psychology degree. I am finally writing my doctoral project. I have written 3 chapters, about 130 pages total with references, completed my data collection, and am now writing chapter 4.
My project is phenomenological, specifically utilizing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). I completed 18 interviews and am currently working with the transcripts. It is a double hermeneutic, reflective and iterative process which takes time. I hope to return to reading and writing for my Substack in the near future. Ideally, I will complete my PsyD by March, 2026.
In the meantime, here is the primary book that I am using for my data collection and analysis: https://amzn.to/4ohqwUz. I also mention another extremely helpful book below.
For the overall process of writing my doctoral project, I have found How to Write a Phenomenological Dissertation: A Step-by-Step Guide (Qualitative Research Methods) extremely helpful! It covered almost every area of the doctoral project process. There were a few areas that might have been thin, but it generally provided guidance for every step.
I will probably do book reviews of both of these books in the future. My doctoral project benefited greatly from both of these works.
